Alyssa Vicario brings expertise in Medicaid policy, stakeholder engagement, technical assistance, and strategic planning to support our clients in developing and implementing policies that positively impact low-income individuals and their families. Alyssa's work is focused primarily on California’s Medi-Cal program, where she leverages her expertise in behavioral health policy and stakeholder engagement to support implementation of high-impact, innovative initiatives.
Since joining the firm in April 2021, Alyssa has worked closely with the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) to implement CalAIM, supporting key Medi-Cal reforms to strengthen and improve access to and quality of integrated behavioral health services. Alyssa also provides CalAIM project support and technical assistance to county health departments across California. Previously, Alyssa supported grants management for DHCS's ACEs Aware initiative that trained Medi-Cal providers on screening for Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and trauma-informed care.
Prior to joining Aurrera Health Group, Alyssa worked as a consultant for several California county behavioral health departments. In this role, she worked with county staff to support the design, implementation, and evaluation of Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) and various grant-funded programs. Alyssa also supported the development of county implementation plans, policies and procedures, and reports to meet state and federal Medi-Cal requirements.
Alyssa holds a bachelor's degree in political science and professional writing from the University of California, Davis and is pursuing a master’s degree in public policy with a focus on health care policy from Oregon State University. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, trying new recipes, and spending time with her family and friends.
