Sara Bovat

Deputy Director

 

Sara Bovat, MA, LSW leads policy development and implementation, communications, and stakeholder engagement efforts to advance coordination of care for older adults and individuals with complex needs. She supports projects focused on Medicare-Medicaid integration and long-term services and supports (LTSS).

Prior to joining Aurrera Health, Sara was a researcher focused on evaluating and improving Medicaid services for older adults and individuals with disabilities, primarily through Medicaid-funded LTSS and Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS). She worked with federal and state clients, such as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission, as well as state Medicaid agencies. Most recently, she supported the California Department of Health Care Services in launching its National Core Indicators – Aging and Disabilities™ statewide survey. 

She also brings a background in the Money Follows the Person Demonstration, HCBS waiver redesign, self-direction of HCBS, and drafting state Medicaid agency contract language for states with the Integrated Care Resource Center. Her methods’ expertise includes qualitative research, quality improvement/measurement, policy analysis, and technical assistance to states. Sara started her career as a Direct Support Professional for adults with intellectual disabilities as an AmeriCorps volunteer.  

She holds a master’s degree in social work, policy, and administration from the University of Chicago School of Social Services Administration, as well as a license of social work certification.
