Deputy Director
Sara Bovat, MA, LSW, leads policy development, program design implementation, and research efforts to advance Medicaid policy and programs, particularly related to long-term services and supports (LTSS), home and community-based services (HCBS), and Section 1915 and 1115 waiver policy. She brings expertise in qualitative methods research, quality measurement and improvement, policy analysis, and technical assistance to states.
Prior to joining Aurrera Health, Sara was a researcher, partnering with federal and state agencies, including the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission (MACPAC), and state Medicaid agencies. Her background also includes work on the Money Follows the Person Demonstration, supporting state waiver redesign and self-direction, as well as drafting Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan (D-SNP) State Medicaid Agency Contract (SMAC) language.
Sara lives in Chicago, IL, and enjoys reading, live music, and exploring new neighborhoods.
